These hands are learning to grow food. They join together to sow seeds, pull leeks and dig up potatoes. The school garden helps them to learn about food, its nutrition, its importance and to respect the earth, to love soil. Encouraged by their teachers’ hands the 6th Class pupils tend the raised beds, caring for Kale, and as they work they learn, exercise and enjoy the air. Their hands cultivate their friendships as they grow their food. Their work becomes their harvest, their harvest their lunch, potato and leek soup, and homemade chips too…

The School garden is being developed by Blanchardstown Area Partnerships – Dublin 15 Good Food Network, which is funded by Healthy Food For All & SafeFood as a means to address food poverty.
